Altmire Voted to Block Legislation that Would Lower Gas Prices

Location: Cranberry Township, PA

Yesterday, the US House Democrats voted to block the No More Excuses Energy Act (H.R. 3089) from being considered on the House floor.

The No More Excuses Energy Act would encourage new refinery construction, lift the congressional moratoria on drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf, open ANWR to environmentally responsible drilling, extend the wind production tax credit and encourage investment in nuclear power.

Jason Altmire, (PA-4), joined with the majority of the Washington, D.C. Democrats in voting to block this imperative legislation.

A discharge petition was filed earlier this week on this same bill. This discharge petition would immediately bring this energy development bill to the floor for a vote. Altmire has so far declined to sign the discharge petition.

"This bill addresses key initiatives that America should already be pursuing, yet Pelosi and the Washington DC Democrats don't even want to have a vote on the bill," said PA-4th district candidate Melissa Hart.

Hart added, "Too much of our supply here at home is off limits due to restrictive government policies. This has forced us to be too dependent on foreign oil. We all know that America has a problem. I find it inexcusable that the Washington DC Democrats are continuing to play politics refusing to even allow a vote on energy bills to move us forward."

"Each week it becomes more evident that this Congress is not serious about finding practical solutions to our acute energy problems. It is going to give voters a lot to think about when they head to the polls in November."
